(Correcting Flippant Use)
This statement shouldn't just be a lingo amongst christians; it should be well understood. “Glory to God!” means “Glory be unto God!”
It's same as screaming "Glory!". It's basically an exclamation to show that we are in awe of God.
Psalms 29:9(NKJV)
The voice of the Lord makes the deer give birth, and strips the forests bare; and in His temple everyone says, "Glory!"
The angels that visited the shepherds at night, to proclaim the good news of the birth of Jesus, praised God with such words.
Luke 2:13-14(NKJV)
[13] And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying:
[14] "Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!"
Words of adoration they are; words of praise and thanksgiving in response to what God has wrought for us in Christ Jesus, through his death, burial, and resurrection; in response to a demonstration of the supernatural and everything God does.
We mean that all the praises and all the credit BELONG to God and not us. This is exactly what Hallelujah means.
This understanding should flourish in our minds even as we cast same on our lips.
We're telling God we're grateful for he is the one at the centre of it all.
