Proverbs 10:7(KJV)
The memory of the just is blessed: but the name of the wicked shall rot.
It is important to pay attention to the use of words here.
Memory, as used here, was translated from the Hebrew word zêker zeker, which means memorial. In the context of our theme verse, it means a commemoration or remembrance of someone dead or alive (many times dead) in order to honour them.
Solomon used same word here too:
Ecclesiastes 9:5(KJV)
For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten.
Our theme verse describes the rememberance of the righteous, just like the popular use of words for a deceased loved one, “In loving memory of…” or “Kenneth Hagin of blessed memory.”
Proverbs 10:7(KJV)
The memory of the just is blessed: but the name (shêm, still in the context of a memorial) of the wicked shall rot.
Thus, it has nothing to do with a retentive memory for students.
Blessings.
